Student life

At St. Peter School our students get involved in activities that interest them and enrich their learning!

rocket sports

St. Peter School gives students in grades 5-8 the opportunity to participate in school athletics and to learn the value of teamwork, fair play, sportsmanship, discipline and determination.  Our school's “no cut” policy allows all students to participate on a sports team. We offer the following sports:

Fall: Co-Ed Cross Country, Girls' Volleyball, and Football
Winter: Boys' and Girls' Basketball
Spring: Boys' Volleyball and Co-Ed Track & Field

Parent Volunteers: Our sports program is truly a team effort.  We rely on parent volunteers to coordinate and coach teams; manage uniforms and equipment; work concessions and admissions; operate the scoreboard; keep the scorebook; organize fundraisers and so much more!

history/science fair

Students in seventh grade participate in the Illinois State History Fair. Students start at our own school fair.  Students can then move on to the Regional Fair at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb and then to the Illinois State History Fair in Springfield.

Eighth grade students at St. Peter School participate in our school Science Fair.  They can advance to the Regional Science Fair at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb and then to the State Science Fair in Champaign, Illinois.

math club

Our middle school students have the opportunity to join the Math Club.  The Math Club meets one time per week during lunch and recess and competes at St. Francis High School, IMSA, and Marmion Academy.

little flower girls' club

Little Flowers Girls' Club is a fun, flexible, faith-filled Catholic club for girls ages 5 and up that teaches virtues through scripture, saints' biographies and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Based on the 1906 Catholic classic "The Catholic Girls' Guide" by Fr. F.X. Lasance, and the spirituality of St. Therese, the Little Flower of Liseux, this beautiful, authentically Catholic program, has delighted and instilled in our girls a love of our Catholic Faith for nearly 20 years.

band

Beginning in fourth grade, Band for Today provides band instruction for the students of St. Peter School. Performances include a Christmas Concert, Spring Concert, and numerous individual competitions.

school musical

Each year St. Peter presents a full scale musical. Titles in the past have included The Music Man, Peter Pan, Godspell, The Wizard of Oz, Annie, and this year Beauty and the Beast! All students in fifth - eighth grade are encouraged to audition and all students perform in some capacity!

The introduction to theater at a young age teaches many different skills. Working together to reach a common goal, collaborating and sharing ideas, as well as making friends and supporting their fellow classmates are just some of them. Students who do not want to be on stage have many opportunities to work behind the scenes. We have a state-of-the-art sound system and lights, sets, costumes and props are all handled by students. The Musical is the highlight of the year for many at SPS!

art club

Students will work with our Art teacher to discover their artistic talents  outside of the classroom and beyond the art standards.  They will be encouraged to use a variety of mediums to create masterpieces that are all their own!

scouts

Students at St. Peter School have the opportunity to join Scout Pack #136 at our school. As a member organization of St. Peter Catholic Church, our pack promotes religious fellowship, character development and stewardship to our community. Cub Scouts can earn special Catholic emblems that reinforce our faith's teachings in the second (as Wolves) and fourth grades (as Webelos I) school years.
