preschool & PRE-K program

St. Peter School offers preschool and Pre-K programming so our families have options that will work for every child and for every schedule. In addition, children in our Pre-K Program have the opportunity to stay after school for enrichment until 3:00 PM each day. Your child will flourish in the capable hands of our early childhood team. Call and reserve a time to meet our staff and take a personal tour with the principal!

two YEAR OLD PROGRAM

This is the time when your little one's character starts to take shape and they blossom into their own person. We help take them to a new level of learning with fine motor skills being tested and further developed. Our 2 year old preschool program offers 2 days a week from 8:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. During this time we focus on the following skills in a fun and positive environment:

  • Movement skills - standing on tiptoes, running, kicking a ball, throwing a ball overhead, etc.
  • Language skills - pointing out and naming objects and pictures
  • Social and emotional skills - increasing confidence, growing independence, mimicking friends and especially teachers, following instructions
  • Thinking skills - playing simple make believe games and using imagination during free play time, beginning to sort and identify shapes and colors, etc.
  • Hand and finger development- scribbling and using various coloring tools, building towers, etc.

three year old program

Whether your child enters our preschool program at age three or at age four, we are likely your child’s first exposure to a “formal” school experience.  We want to ensure that it is a positive one.  In our half-day Preschool Program, our emphasis is on literacy and math with exposure to social studies, science, and religion.  Our program is theme based, allowing time for exploration and encouraging the children to ask questions.
  • We engage in daily conversations that stimulate language and cognitive development, and encourage a child’s inquisitive nature.
  • We introduce students to letter recognition and phonological awareness, and we build comprehension and expressive writing skills.
  • We begin working on number identification, number formation and one-to-one correspondence, as well as a review of shapes and colors.
  • We incorporate Christian values into the daily life.
  • We help your child feel safe, comfortable and safety is a top priority.  We encourage a positive and fun learning environment while opening the wonderful world to our students through the lens of faith!

pre-kindergarten program

Our Pre-Kindergarten Program, our curriculum includes literacy, math, social studies, science, and religion to prepare students for Kindergarten. We differentiate learning at this early age based on students’ interests and abilities.  Both reading and math are taught through a "guided program" where students learn at their own abilitly level after various formal and informal assessments have been completed.

We build student literacy competency in assessing, processing, listening, expressive and fine motor skills.
  • Letter recognition
  • Phonological awareness
  • Comprehension skills
  • Concepts about print
  • Receptive and expressive language

We build student capacity in math.
  • Students use numbers, including written numerals, to represent quantities and to solve quantitative problems, such as counting objects in a set; counting out a given number of objects; comparing sets or numerals
  • Students can model simple joining and separating situations through equations and word problems
  • Students describe their physical world using geometric ideas (e.g., shape, orientation, spatial relations) and vocabulary
  • Ability to recognize numbers and counting sequence

At St. Peter School we engage students in “circle time” where students listen to stories and music, and learn expressive movements. We engage students in social experiences where students learn to interact, discuss, collaborate and learn from one another.

Pre-K EnRICHMENT program

St. Peter School offers a special program beyond the norm for Pre-Kindergarten children who are enrolled in morning classes. This program is geared specifically for Early Childhood and aims to create a loving, safe atmosphere for the entire day so that parents have the opportunity to extend the school environment in a familiar atmosphere. Our program is an additional enrichment for our Pre-Kindergarten curriculum.

Students enrolled in Pre-K Enrichment stay after their class is dismissed at 11:15 a.m. While at enrichment, students will eat their lunch (provided by family), have a quiet time, have free play, large and small motor play, crafts, computer learning games and other social/educational activities. Students go outside to play and have the opportunity to play in our multipurpose room and gymnasium. The children spend time each day involved in small group activities that encourage social, emotional, spiritual and cognitive learning in our loving family atmosphere.
