From the Principal
January 20, 2010
Greetings to one and all!
The first semester of this school year ended on Friday, January 15. During this time we have many accomplishments to celebrate!
In this, our 51st year of existence, there were a number of "firsts" for St. Peter School. For the first time in the history of our school, a "Rocket" football team took the field . Competing against other Catholic school teams in the area, our fifth and sixth graders made us proud every time they played a game. It is our hope that next year we will be able to field not only a fifth and sixth grade team, but a seventh and eighth grade team, as well! Other "firsts" for our school this semester included a daily hot lunch program and BASE, a "Before and After School Enrichment" program, for working families.
Our athletic accomplishments during this semester have certainly been memorable! Both of our Cross Country Teams qualified for the State Meet in Bloomington-Normal by each placing FIRST at the Sectional Meet! And then they both followed up by placing FIRST in the Conference Meet! Our competitive cheerleading squad made us proud by finishing second in the St. Francis High School Cheerleading Competition. And our trophy case is overflowing with trophies from our volleyball and basketball teams!
However, athletics is not the only area that our students excel! Recently, St. Peter School received the results of this year’s Iowa Tests of Basic Skills. I am so pleased to announce that the average percentile rank of our eighth grade on the National School Norms was 99%. Unbelievable! Our third, fifth, and seventh grades were not far behind, respectively scoring 96%, 94%, and 93% on the National School Norms.
Finally, how did we do where it counts, in the eyes of Jesus? I like to think that we excelled in this area, as well. Not only did our school adopt ten needy families at Christmas, but the “spare change” collection during Spirit Week netted more than $4,000 for children with cleft palates. The “Smile Train” is chugging along with our help!
In conclusion, we are 50% finished with the school year at St. Peter Catholic School and we have set the bar very high! Let's see if we can continue to rise above that bar during the second semester. Keep up the good work, one and all!
