Curriculum
Students receive instruction through a combination of total class instruction, small groups, and individual help based on the various subjects and classes. These methods provide for the individual needs and learning styles of the students. Curriculum guides are provided for all subject areas through the Diocese.
Students in grades 6-8 receive instruction that is departmentalized in Religion, English, Literature, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Spanish classes are offered to students in grades 6-8, three times a week and in grade 5, twice a week.
“Specials” are an integral part of the St. Peter School experience. Each week students experience art, music, physical education, technology, and library visits. Students in grades four through eight may participate in band programs.
A school counselor from Catholic Charities is available, as needed, to address both academic and social concerns by students, parents, and teachers.
SACRAMENTAL PROGRAMS
All sacramental preparation is conducted in cooperation with the Parish Director of Religious Education and recognizes the parents' role in the religious education of their children. Students receive instruction in class and are required to do certain assignments, sometimes with the assistance of their parents. School parents are expected to attend the required adult sessions.
TESTING
Iowa Tests of Basic Skills are given in grades 2-8 each fall. Metropolitan Readiness Tests are administered to the Kindergarten classes in the Spring. The ACRE tests (religious education) are given to grades 5 and 8 each February.
