Home and School

St. Peter Home and School Association

Nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others. 1 Corinthians 10:24
We are always looking for volunteers!

Welcome to the 50th Year of St. Peter School! We, the Home and School Board, are here to work with the administration, faculty, and staff to make St. Peter School a place of academic excellence as well as an enriching spiritual environment for the children. We encourage every parent to be involved as much as you are able. The success of the school, and our children, depends on all of us. May God abundantly bless our school family this academic year.

ST.PETER HOME& SCHOOL ASSOCIATION (HSA)

The Home & School Association is St. Peter’s version of the PTO. All teachers and parents are considered members of the HSA. Annual dues are $20 and are used to defray such costs as the parent/student handbook, family directory, and the school website. Parents are invited to attend monthly meetings – dates and times are listed on the school calendar you will receive each month. If you are interested in becoming an active member, please contact one of the HSA board members.

Home & School Association Objectives

The objectives of the HSA are to:

  • Enlist the spiritual, educational and social resources of home and school to provide the best Catholic education possible;
  • Provide a solid organization for the school’s fund raising efforts;
  • Support the administration, faculty and policies of the school.

PROGRAMS SUPPORTED BY THE ST. PETER
HOME & SCHOOL ASSOCIATION

Art: St. Peter’s Home and School provides funds for the Art program for grades K – 8, including supplies and curriculum materials.

Assemblies : Each year several assemblies are presented to support or supplement the curriculum. Assemblies highlight such areas as social studies, science, holidays, physical education, language and fine arts. Specific information on each assembly will be sent home.

Book Fair : St. Peter’s book fair is held twice a year to encourage reading at all levels.

Catholic Schools Week : Catholic Schools Week is a national event, which helps raise awareness of Catholic schools across America. A St. Peter Home & School Association committee, in conjunction with St. Peter teacher representatives, plans a faith-filled, fun, and educational week for students and families.

Computer and Library Resource :St. Peter’s Home and School provides funds for computer and other technology for the lab and classrooms and library books and equipment for the resource room. In addition, parents volunteer in the computer lab and library under the direction of the technology coordinator, library coordinator, and principal.

Enrichment : These classes are offered to St. Peter’s students and are taught after school by parent volunteers, who have a talent or skill to share. Also, some classes are taught by outside professionals, and they are coordinated and offered to the students. Classes can include anything from basketball to gardening. Information on classes, including dates and how to register your child, will be sent home.

Historian/Public Relations : The Home & School Association maintains a photo/scrapbook for the school office recording events of the school year. Watch also for publicity about various St. Peter’s happenings in your local newspaper.

Hospitality : The hospitality committee supports Home & School activities by providing refreshments, baked goods and/or set up for various school functions such as Open House and Teacher Appreciation Day.

Hot Lunch : Hot Lunch is available to students in Full-Day Kindergarten through 8 th Grade on Mondays each month from October to May. Hot lunches are pre-paid by parents once per semester. A form will be sent home indicating vendors, food choices, and cost.

Ice Cream Social : The Ice Cream Social is a family get-together held in the evening one evening within the first two weeks of the first day of school. It offers St. Peter’s families an opportunity to get better acquainted.

Music : The Music program for grades K – 8 at St. Peter School is supported and funded by the Home and School Association.

New Families Welcoming Committee : The purpose of this committee is to help new families become better acquainted with the school. Committee members or Home & School board members make personal contact with new parents to help establish a link to the HSA. A New Families Orientation is held prior to the first day of school.

Parent Education : Speakers are scheduled to educate and assist parents in various aspects of their child’s development. This committee also provides educational information for parents and various parenting resource materials.

Restaurant Night: Local restaurants sponsor a St. Peter’s Night. A portion of the proceeds is donated back to St. Peter School.

Room Parents : Two parents are randomly selected (from those who volunteer) to serve as room parents for their child’s class. Room parents plan parties, including Christmas and Valentine’s Day parties. They also coordinate parent chaperones for field trips and enlist support from parents in other areas where teachers request help. Volunteer sign-up forms will be available at Sign-Up Day.

Social Committee: St. Peter’s School organizes an All Saints Day Celebration for all the children of the school. The social committee also coordinates school dances for the upper grades.

The “Spectacular” : Each year a dinner-dance and live/silent auction called “The Spectacular” is held to benefit St. Peter School. As the school’s largest fundraiser, the evening is well attended and a great opportunity to meet and mingle with St. Peter’s parents. This event relies heavily on volunteers.

St. Peter’s Pages : Home and School publishes a monthly newsletter, the St. Peter Pages, to communicate the group’s activities and events.

Treat Days : Every Wednesday, ice cream is sold for $.50 during lunch. Students must bring $.50 to purchase. Check your monthly calendar for treat day dates.

Uniform and “Spirit Wear” Items : A portion of the sales of St. Peter’s promotional items (t-shirts, sweatshirts, etc.) benefit the Home & School Association. Gym uniforms, required for grades 5 through 8, are also ordered through this Committee. A complete listing of available items along with an order form will be sent home at various times throughout the school year and is always available in the school office.

GROUPS TO BENEFIT ST. PETER SCHOOL

Market Day : Market Day offers an opportunity for families to purchase a wide variety of convenient and delicious Restaurant Quality foods from everyday to gourmet/holiday fare. Order forms are sent home once a month and food pick up is generally ten days later at the school on a Saturday. Proceeds benefit the school.

Peace Program :Through the purchase of local and national chain business gift certificates, a percentage of the proceeds goes to St. Peter Church and School, and a percentage is credited to your school tuition.

GROUPS FUNDED BY
ST.PETER HOME& SCHOOL ASSOCIATION

Art Partners: An innovative art program developed and run by parent volunteers interested in enriching our students’ curriculum with creative monthly presentations and projects in the classroom based on artist works, lives, and style.

Parents for the Planet : Group dedicated to conserving natural resources and energy, reducing waste and recycling within our school community. Parents for the Planet also runs our Year-round Paper Recycling Drive, with proceeds benefiting St. Peter School. Dumpsters behind the school collect all your recyclable paper including newspaper, office waste, and magazines. Volunteers aim to increase environmental awareness by sponsoring assemblies, classroom projects, and various other educational programs.
